Privacy Policy for Augur
Effective October 17, 2026
This policy explains what Metellus Productions LLC ("we", "us") collects and why when you use Augur, our iPhone app (listed on the App Store as "Augur: History in 5 Minutes"), and this website, augurhistory.app. Questions: support@metellusproductions.com.
The short version
- Augur has no accounts. We never ask for your name or a password.
- Your progress lives on your phone and in your own iCloud.
- We use analytics and crash reports to improve the app. They use a random identifier for your install, not your name.
- We only use your device's advertising identifier if you allow tracking when the app asks. You can change that anytime in your iPhone's Settings.
- We do not sell your personal information.
1. Information on your device
Your progress, streak, chapter bookmarks, settings and your answers to the onboarding questions (for example your goal and the eras you like) are stored on your iPhone. If iCloud is on, your progress is also synced through your own iCloud account so it follows you to a new phone; Apple stores it, and we cannot read it. Narration, films and paintings you download are cached on your device.
2. Downloading chapters
Chapter narration, films and paintings are downloaded from Google Firebase Storage. Like any download, this sends Google the technical information needed to deliver the files, such as your IP address. We do not use it to identify you.
3. Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how people use Augur: which onboarding screens they see, which chapters they open and finish, What If results, whether the subscription screen was shown and whether a purchase completed, and when the app is opened. These events carry a random identifier for your install, basic device information (model, iOS version, app version, country) and your onboarding answers. They do not include your name, email address or payment details.
4. Crash reports
If the app crashes, Google Firebase Crashlytics receives a crash report: the technical details of the crash, your device model, iOS and app version, and an identifier for your install. We use it only to fix bugs.
5. Subscriptions and payments
- App Store purchases are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details.
- US card and Apple Pay checkout. In the United States you can also subscribe through a checkout run by Stripe. Stripe collects your email address and payment details and processes the payment; we never see your full card number. Your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers are stored on your phone so Settings can open your billing page, and our server uses them only to create that page.
- Superwall shows the subscription screen and tells the app whether your subscription is active. It receives your purchase history, a random identifier for your install, basic device information including your App Store country, and your onboarding answers, so it can show the right subscription screen. For US checkout purchases it also receives the email you paid with, to send your receipt and a link to restore access.
6. Ad measurement and tracking
We use AppsFlyer to learn which videos and ads bring people to Augur. When you first open the app, iOS asks whether Augur may track you. If you allow it, AppsFlyer receives your device's advertising identifier together with install, subscription and purchase events, and shares them with ad networks such as Meta and TikTok so they can measure our ads. If you decline, the advertising identifier is not used: AppsFlyer still receives install, subscription and purchase events with an identifier specific to Augur, and ads are measured in aggregate, including through Apple's privacy-preserving tools. You can change your choice anytime in your iPhone's Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.
7. Feedback, reviews and calls
- Feedback. When you send feedback from the app, we store your message, the email address if you choose to add one, your app and iOS version, device model, whether you are subscribed, how many chapters you have finished, and a random identifier for your install, in Google Cloud Firestore. We use it to answer you and improve Augur.
- What If statistics. When you play a What If, the app adds one to anonymous counters (players, wins, and how each run ended) so the app can show how other players did. These counters contain no identifiers.
- Calls. If you choose to book a call with us, scheduling is handled by Calendly under its own privacy policy.
- Ratings. Rating prompts are shown by Apple; we never see who rated.
8. Notifications
Daily reminders are scheduled on your phone. No information is sent anywhere to deliver them.
9. This website
augurhistory.app uses PostHog to count page views and clicks on our App Store buttons and links, with a random identifier stored in your browser. Our host, Vercel, processes requests to serve and protect the site. When you arrive through a creator link (an address starting with /r/), we record the link, your approximate country and the referring page.
10. Who we share information with
Only the service providers named above, to run Augur: Apple, Google Firebase (Storage, Firestore, Crashlytics), PostHog, Superwall, Stripe, AppsFlyer and, if you allow tracking, the ad networks it reports to, Calendly if you book a call, and Vercel for this website. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.
11. How long we keep it
Data on your phone stays until you erase it or delete the app. Feedback is kept until it is no longer needed to answer you or improve the app. Analytics and crash data are kept by our providers for their standard retention periods. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires.
12. Your choices and rights
- Erase what the app keeps on your phone in Settings, then Erase my data. Deleting the app does the same.
- Turn tracking off in your iPhone's Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.
- To ask what we hold about you, or to have feedback, purchase or analytics records deleted, email support@metellusproductions.com. Depending on where you live (for example in California or the European Union), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your information; we honor those requests.
13. Children
Augur is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the new version here with a new effective date.
