Terms of Use
Welcome to Augur, our iPhone app (listed on the App Store as "Augur: History in 5 Minutes"), and its website, augurhistory.app. Augur teaches history through short narrated stories in which you make the decisions historical figures faced and then see what really happened. In these Terms, "the Service" means the Augur app and augurhistory.app, both operated by Metellus Productions LLC. By downloading or using the app or website, you agree to these Terms of Use. (Our free web game, HistoryForge at historyforge.app, has its own terms.)
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and any additional terms applicable to certain features or services. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app immediately.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
3. Accounts
Augur has no accounts: no email or password is required. Your progress is stored on your device and, if iCloud is on, in your own iCloud.
4. Use of the App
The Service is designed to provide interactive historical scenarios, branching decision gameplay, and educational historical content. You agree to use the app responsibly and in accordance with these Terms. You may not:
- Use the app for unlawful purposes or activities.
- Disrupt or interfere with the app's functionality.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or exploit the app's software.
- Use content from the app to harass, defame, or harm others.
5. Educational Content
Scenarios in the Service are researched and written from primary and secondary historical sources. Content is dramatized for interactive play and is intended as an educational and entertainment experience, not as a primary academic source. When you make a choice the real people did not, the outcome shown is invented. Illustrations, narration and films are produced with the help of AI tools. Some scenarios depict historical violence, war, religious conflict, plague, or moral dilemmas; these are presented in their historical context for educational purposes.
6. Paid Subscriptions (Augur app)
Augur offers auto-renewing subscriptions that unlock the full app. The plans, prices and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy. By purchasing a subscription, you agree that:
- The subscription renews automatically at the same price and for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- If a plan includes a free trial, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. A free trial is offered once per person.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
App Store purchases: payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase and renewals are charged within 24 hours before the current period ends. You can cancel in Augur's Settings (Manage subscription) or in your iPhone's Settings, under your Apple ID, then Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
US card and Apple Pay checkout: in the United States you may also subscribe through our checkout, processed by Stripe. Your payment method is charged at purchase and at each renewal. You can cancel or update your payment method anytime in Augur's Settings (Manage subscription), which opens your billing page, or by emailing us. For refunds on these purchases, email support@metellusproductions.com.

7. Privacy and Data
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how your data is collected, used, and stored. By using the app, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
8. Intellectual Property
All content, trademarks, scenario narratives, and materials provided through the Service are the property of Metellus Productions LLC or licensed to us. Scenario content is created for your personal use. You may not reproduce, distribute, or modify app content for commercial purposes without prior permission.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. We do not guarantee the app will be free of errors, interruptions, or security vulnerabilities. Educational content is provided for entertainment and self-reflection and should not be relied upon for professional or academic decisions.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Metellus Productions LLC and its creators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use the app.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms and Conditions periodically. Continued use of the app after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our sole discretion, without prior notice, for violation of these Terms or any applicable laws.
13. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States.
